I think it’s mad that the M3 gets the garage.

Looks odd to see 340 deg as a valid temperature!

January 2nd is always the worst day of the year - end of a long run of holidays, the weather sucks, I’m usually sick (including now), and it’s about a million years until the next day off.

CEL’s and rejection emails are par for the course on Jan 2. Hope that’s a cheap fix, and a better (non oilfield) job comes along!

Hopefully something comes along soon because I’ve been very seriously emailing one of the service companies and be like if the job is still open, I want it.

Oof - getting that fed up with the current gig, I take it, then?

My holiday car shopping plans last week got waylaid by the shitty weather here in Chicago. Temps have been single digits/negative for most of the last week plus, there’s no point test driving anything when it’s so cold, my 2015 Lexus is rattling over every bump. Plus I have ZERO desire to be outside when it’s -10 F first thing in the morning. Screw that.

I’m very frustrated with everything right now, so much so the oilfield sounds appealing.

I went to look at an E93 M3 at the land rover dealer near my parents the day after xmas, but they didn’t come out to help me. Plus it would have required them to move a couple cars to get to it. That weather is miserable for car shopping.

I was in Greenville for New Years and that was cold enough for me. We sat outside most of Sunday cause my friend just bought a house with a pretty sweet porch and we figured we should use it. I think the beers helped.

You didn’t want that gig anyway. And the light, well, it just wants to show you it still works. Probably just a loose gas cap :)

I woke up to a dead battery AND a flat tire. Then my portable jump box started smoking and swelled up, leaking acid. Awesome. So I guess I’m going to be $300 lighter this week to replace both...or $450 if the tire can’t be patched.

This was on my way to reluctantly surrender our second cat to the Humane Society after many tears around the family. He just wasn’t working out with the kids or the other cat. We only had him about 4 months, but he should get adopted fast.

I drove 2,400 miles last year (first full year without a work commute) so the cost per mile on my car now looks horrendous. At least depreciation is almost nil at 16 years old.

The rattles? It’s just too damn cold, and everything is stiff and brittle. Not a knock on the car at all, it’s just TOO DAMN COLD.

Greenville, SC? Been a while, but I travel there every so often. Great town.

Hopefully it gets better soon - - stay patient, the right job will come along!

Yeah, SC. I really like it. I might have an in at a company up there.

It’s not as bad as being unemployed, but that doesn’t make it fun.

The last two things my car dinged at me about (outside of the frost warning that happens EVERY DAY IN WISCONSIN FOR 3+ STRAIGHT MONTHS) were an O2 sensor glitch caused by my O2 sensor simulator that I solved by clearing the code, and a “WARNING INCREASED BATTERY DISCHARGE” nonsense on my 18 month old battery because it’s so fucking cold out and the car didn’t like that so I just used MHD to reset the battery adaptations. So that’s a win.

I had been getting frustrated as shit with it because I didn’t realize how awfully stiff riding and noisy my Kumho PS91 summer tires had gotten until I swapped my Michelin PA4 winters back on, and also because of a few interior rattles that I’ve now fixed.

So I’m back to thinking things like, “sure, I can keep this car for a long time.”

Probably a bad idea.

I’m full of them.

It doesn’t mean anything. It’s a generic rejection letter that gets automatically generated when the HR person clicks “reject” in the applicant tracking database. These rejection letters are worded intentionally vaguely so you don’t go back to them with stuff like, “BUT YOU SHOULD HAVE HIRED ME BECAUSE XYZ THING YOU SAY YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOUR REJECTION LETTER AND I TOTALLY HAVE IN MY BACKGROUND IF YOU WOULD JUST LOOK AT THIS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION YOU ALREADY KNOW ABOUT ME FROM INTERVIEWING ME BUT I CAN’T HANDLE REJECTION.”

(I work in recruiting.)

That moment a 414 horsepower sports sedan gets 4 mpg better than your 180 horsepower hatchback

That was in the 328i, the M3 gets around 15.5 mpg per tank.

I like Greenville, SC. I also remember when starting my career considering becoming an emissions certification engineer so that I could work at BMW, and even knew someone working for them in NJ, so there was a realistic possibility of an outside chance of making it happen. I went in a different direction, but was always a bit envious of his company discount.
